Crystal healing has been gaining attention across the globe. As this popularity increases, we are noticing an increase of crystal healing certification programs. As the leader and original pioneer of Gemstone Therapy, we at the Gemstone Therapy Institute feel that it is our obligation to help you better understand the differences between crystal healing and gemstone healing—no matter which certification program you pursue.

Which Is Better, Crystal Healing or Gemstone Healing?

Most–not all–crystals and gemstones can be healing to some degree. Their effects are not magical. Nor are they cure-alls. Consider them more like herbs, which each have unique qualities, properties, and benefits.

The shape of the crystal makes a big difference in how effective its energies can be.

Most crystal healing certification programs use raw crystals and pocket rocks, but at the Gemstone Therapy Institute, we use gemstone spheres and rondels (slightly flattened spheres) in our courses and teach specific techniques for applying them. We use these types of gems in our classes and certification because of their superior quality and therapeutic benefits.

Raw crystals and pockets stones do indeed carry some healing energies. However, the shape of raw crystals and the poor quality of most pocket rocks prevent them from lifting your vibrations as high as they could go with healing gemstone spheres. The higher your vibrations, the easier it is for your body to self-heal.

While you may get initial results from raw crystals and pocket stones, you will eventually reach a ceiling. At some point, they’ll no longer work for you because your body needs something more effective for the healing support that’s required.

Due to inclusions, blemishes, poor cut, low clarity, and less-than-ideal color, most raw crystals and pocket stones have limitations in their overall healing capabilities.

A gemstone sphere, on the other hand, is cut from a raw crystal from which all non-therapeutic portions have been removed so that only the pure crystal remains. What’s left is a pure, medicinal-quality gemstone.

Raw Crystal Energy and Gemstone Sphere Energy Are Not the Same

Raw crystals and gemstone spheres move their energies differently. Raw crystals bring energy in one end and project it out the other. There is no doubt that the energy of raw crystals can impact the body. However, if your body says, “Stop! That’s too much!” the raw crystal can’t modify its effects to accommodate your needs. So, your body shields itself from the crystal’s effects as best as it can. This prevents it from doing any damage, but it also reduces the body’s ability to receive the crystal’s benefits.

Ironically, when this occurs, some practitioners sense that the body’s defenses are elevated. They claim the crystal enhances a person’s ability to self-protect—when in fact, it has nothing to do with the crystal’s essential nature whatsoever. The body is trying to defend itself against the crystal itself!

In contrast, gemstone spheres radiate their healing energies evenly in all directions. They work comprehensively, throughout your body and aura. If your body cannot handle the gemstone’s energies in a certain area, it simply redirects them elsewhere. A sphere’s energy is powerful but also gentle enough to adjust. Your body can moderate where the energies go and how much it wants to receive. Spheres are safe and can also be worn all day long for ongoing support.

Benefits of Healing Gemstones

There are many things we can do to find relief in times of need, such as journaling, exercising, meditating, and spending time in nature.

We can also get ongoing support from healing gemstones any time we need, no matter what we’re doing or where we are. By combining therapeutic gemstones with other modes of treatment and helpful activities, we can improve how efficiently and effectively we heal.

Therapeutic-quality gemstones can help you feel more grounded, cleared, and nourished. When you wear a gemstone, you focus its energies on the side of the body on which it is worn, particularly on that hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder when wearing a gemstone bracelet.

In contrast, when you wear a gemstone necklace, it addresses the whole of you, working with the left and right sides equally.

All healing gemstones have a grounding and uplifting effect. That alone can help you get through trying situations. Gemstones also naturally raise vibrations. When vibrations rise, unwanted energies are naturally released, and healing occurs.

Many people feel the energy of crystals in their raw and pocket rock form. This is true. But those energies are actually best used to uplift rooms and those within them. They’re ideal for making mandala layouts–but off the body. Not placed directly on it. Some rocks are kept in people’s pockets and used as worry stones or to give emotional and psychological support. For a short time, they can indeed uplift a person’s vibrations. But that person will soon outgrow the stone’s effects, which is why most of them aren’t kept in one’s pocket for very long. Again, keep it on your desk or bureau where its beauty can be enjoyed and its uplifting effects can support the room it’s in.

Can Crystal Healing Be Dangerous?

Fortunately, the application of healing crystals is elementary and therefore relatively benign. It’s ideal for those who love crystals and want a basic introduction to their effects and simple uses.

However, contrary to popular belief, I’ve learned that raw crystal applications at the head and chakras should be avoided since these areas are particularly sensitive to energies. Raw crystals can have a disorganizing effect on the energy field of these sensitive anatomy. To prevent this from happening, the body gathers a great deal of protective energy at these areas. Again, this energy is often mistaken for something positive.

In contrast, healing gemstone spheres can be safely applied anywhere on the body, including at the head and chakras. This is due to the body’s ability to moderate the amount of a sphere’s energy it receives and redirect it. Gemstone Therapy Practitioners are trained to sense, feel, and know when gemstones should be removed or shifted elsewhere on the body to provide the most efficient and effective healing, and to avoid the body going into a defensive mode.

The body is unable to moderate the energies of crystals due to the uni-directional nature of energy moving through crystal points, and the disorganized energy moving through crystal conglomerates.

Taking Crystal Healing to the 21st Century

The availability of gemstone spheres has opened the door to safe, sophisticated, focused, and detailed healing applications that extend far beyond the reach of common crystals. Healing gemstone spheres can be applied in ways that deeply affect the body’s molecules, cells, organs, systems, and all their energetic counterparts.

Gemstone Therapy training includes a detailed study of energetic anatomy and physiology, so a practitioner knows exactly how and where to apply these medicinal energetic tools, and what happens when they do.

If healing crystals were applied using the methods of Gemstone Therapy, the outcome would be disorganizing and disharmonious. Only medicinal-grade spheres can be used in the sophisticated applications taught at the Gemstone Therapy Institute.

Gemstone Therapy for Everyday Use

In its simplest form, Gemstone Therapy is applied by wearing gemstone spheres strung into necklaces or bracelets to give you ongoing support.

For this purpose, the variety of healing gemstone necklaces available have been categorized based on their general function.

Learn to Give Gemstone Therapy Distant Healing Sessions

Someone once compared their crystal training with mine by saying she teaches remote work at the very beginning. I said that’s great and the conversation ended.

At Gemstone Therapy Institute, we don’t teach remote work until Level 3 because there’s simply too much to learn in Levels 1 and 2. Plus, you have to be proficient at in-person Gemstone Therapy protocols before you can take the leap to giving them remotely. You cannot give remote clients the undivided focus they need while scanning your notes for what step to do next in a Gemstone Therapy procedure.

That being said, we do have a course on How to Give Safe, Meaningful, and Effective Remote Healing Sessions, which is designed for practitioners of all modalities. It teaches the basic mechanics, skills, and ethics required to give distant healing sessions–no matter your modality. There’s enough content in this in-depth course for six months of study.

There is always something new to learn about the gemstones, the body’s energies, and yourself. Gemstones enrich your life as they nourish, clear, and awaken, supporting you as you learn to support others.
